Use prom makeup to look your very best for your junior or senior prom. Learn about your options here.
The most important part of the year for a high school junior or senior is the Prom.
The photographs will be a permanent reminder for many years to come of just how beautiful you were.
Of course, you will want to look your very best, so choosing the correct makeup is a very important part of prom preparation.
It is important to use a very good foundation as your base coat. There are excellent foundations available today that provide good coverage. Test the foundation before the actual event. If the makeup does not provide you with good even coverage, then do not use it, purchase a different brand.
Pay careful attention to noticeable areas on the face, for example, dark circles under the eyes. However, be sure to choose the correct color of foundation, as anything too dark or too light would not be suitable. In any case, you could always visit a makeup artist before your big day and have a makeup trial.
When visiting a makeup artist for your prom makeup be sure to let the makeup artist know what your likes and dislikes are concerning makeup and what type of look you are going far. You may also wish to try several different styles and colors while cleaning your face in between applications to come up with the look that you will like the best.
You could even experiment and do one side of your face in one color and do the other side of your face in another color to better see the differences to help you decide your favorite and then clean your face and apply the colors you like the best. Bringing a friend with you to get another opinion can be helpful also. This is your special day, so be sure that you are pleased with the results before you pay your bill. Working with the makeup artist to achieve the best results will provide you with a pleasant experience.
If going for subtle look eyeshadow should be light and shimmering. If choosing to use eyeliner, then applying it to the top lid could be quite enough. If going for a more glamorous look you may wish to use metallic eyeliner, preferably in dark colors, and shimmering eyeshadow. You will want to use eyeliner to line the top and bottom of the eye and use mascara on the top and bottom lashes.
When you have applied your foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara, it is recommended to apply a little loose powder to the entire face, before applying a lipstick.
These are the basics of your prom makeup, but you can continue if you wish, by adding other products or concealing certain features on your face, for example:
Cheekbones
If you are going for a subtle look and selecting a blusher for your cheekbones, then choose a light brown subtle shade and dab it on. If you are going for another look such as a glamorous look then experiment with different colors until you find what looks best on you.
Plumping Lips
You can easily plump your lips by using a lip liner. Draw your natural lip line with a conditioning lip liner and then color in your lips with a lip liner. This way you have a base to your lips which should stay all night. When picking out your lipstick try to keep the color as close to or the same as your lip liner or you can just add a lip gloss or shine.
Hiding Freckles
If you have freckles, then do not attempt to over then with a concealer. Using a light foundation will blend in well to give a more natural look.
Hiding Scars
If you are trying to hide scars, again, do not attempt to cover them with a concealer. This will only make them more noticeable. Instead, use a foundation with excellent coverage followed by a little matte powder.
And last, but certainly not least, remember that the color of your entire makeup will depend on the color of your prom dress. Obviously do not allow your prom makeup colors to clash with your dress color. If you do decide to visit a makeup artist before your big day for a makeup trial, then inform them of the color of your dress, or better still, take a photograph with you, so that they know exactly what you will be wearing in order to select the suitable products and colors.
