Use smoky eye makeup to get a classic look that is sexy, sophisticated and stylish. Learn how to get this dramatic look here. The remarkable thing is that achieving the look isn't as difficult as you may think.
The tools that you will need are three shades of eye shadow, an eye liner, various makeup brushes, mascara and false eyelashes if you want them.
Select an eye shadow color for your smoky eye makeup such as charcoal, burgundy, eggplant, taupe or brown. Whichever color you choose, you need one medium shade and a deeper version of that shade.
In other words, deep burgundy and very deep burgundy. Vanilla is a neutral color that is great for highlighting the brow bone and the inner corner of the eye and it goes with any color.
You want your eye liner to correspond with the shadow that you select. However, a charcoal liner will go with any of the shades and will increase the dramatic look significantly. Use a type that is blendable, like a kohl, but you don't want it to be too soft or it will just smear and look messy. Make certain that the eyeliner has a fine point.
There are several types of makeup brushes that will help you a great deal. A fine tip eyeliner brush, a contour eye brush, a medium shadow brush and a fluffy eye shadow brush. Q-tips can also be very useful. You can get deep hues when you use Q-tips for applying your eye shadow.
The mascara that you choose for your smoky eye makeup to complete your smoky look should be a thickening formula. You want to use black because black brown or charcoal will not be dark enough and won't give you the drama that you want. You can also use false eye lashes to give your eyes more definition and make your lashes look fuller.
To create the smoky eye look, start with clean skin and no makeup on the eye area. If you opt for the false lashes, apply them now. Whether you use them or not, follow these directions:
Use the eyeliner to line your upper lid as close to the lash line as you can get. Sweep the medium deep shade across your lid and over the crease. Use a Q-tip to blend the edges well. With the eyeliner brush, line the upper lid with the very deep shadow and smudge slightly upward. Use the same brush to line your lower lid close to the lash line. Smudge the line from the outer corner to inner corner.Use the contour brush to sweep the deep shade in the crease. Blend well. Highlight just the brow bone with the vanilla shadow and apply a tiny dab at the inner corner of each eye to open then up a bit. Use your liner to line the outer three fourths of the upper lid, as close to the lash line and you can get, and extend the line slightly beyond the outer corner. Smudge slightly with a Q-tip. Apply several coats of mascara to top and bottom lashes.
This is how you achieve the sexy, smoky eye. Make sure that the colors are well blended, you don't want harsh lines to detract from the look. Also, black liner may not be the best bet as it can often be very harsh and hard. For a little added effect, you can sweep a little of the vanilla highlighter under the lower lashes, over the liner. It has a very pretty effect.
If your first application of the liner next to the upper lashes is not dark enough after the first application, apply another thin layer and top with the deep shade applied with the eye liner brush. Do this until you have the sexy look that you want.
